Inside World of Valet Parking
Valet Parking
Using valet parking is not something most people know how to do, so here is a helpful guide if you ever choose to use valet parking at a concert.
Please be aware that at some venues, you may not qualify for valet parking. Many venues limit this service to people who are exclusive venue club members.
Before You Go
1. Look up the location of the valet parking area before you get to the venue.
2. Get out the items you will need for that night: wallet, ticket, phone,…etc. This will help you have everything ready for a smooth transition to the valet.
3. Keep a little extra cash on hand. While most valets will take a credit card, cash is often preferred method of payment for valet parking.
4. You should tuck away any important valuables you have in your car before pulling up to the valet. While most people and places are safe and secure, not having high value items in your car makes it less of a target in the case of someone being dishonest.
5. Another helpful tip is to clean up your car before using valet parking. Get a car wash and clean out the trash in the interior. No one wants the embarrassment of showing up to the valet line with a filthy car.
Inside the Valet Circuit
There are five very important steps to follow once you pull up to the valet.
Step One:
Be vigilant and aware as you pull up to the valet drop off. Look for valets directing traffic and be sure to drive slowly, safely and in the right direction. Things will move quickly in the drop off zone so pay attention to what is happening around you.
Step Two:
When you pull up to the valet unloading zone, put your car in park and leave it running. Taking your key out takes extra time.
Step Three:
This third step may depend on the formality of the event and the quality of the valet. With a higher-end valet service, a valet will come and open the door for you. If you choose to get out of your car on your own, be sure to keep an eye out for passing cars when opening the door. Once you are out, stay next to your car on the curb(not in the road) until a valet greets you.
Step Four:
If your car has any strange quirks, such as a sticky key, let you valet know. Take your claim ticket from the valet and put in a safe place such as your wallet where it will not get lost.
Step Five:
When you pick your car up from the valet, you want to make sure you have your claim ticket. You will just need to give it to the valet. When your car arrives, is it polite to give the valet who retrieved your car a $3-$6-dollar tip.
